Our family has just starting adapting to using an Instant Pot and have made Instant Pot soup, but this is the first time making something as large and hearty as a full chicken. In about 50 minutes you can have a fully cooked chicken that literally falls off the bone.

Like the recipe says, it calls for a beer can, well a full can of beer that is! We are going with Yuengling. Similar when cooking with wine, only use a beer you would want to drink too.

Cut up an onion and celery in large chunks and add them to the bottom of your Instant Pot or Electric Pressure cooker with water.

Place your opened, but full can of beer into the middle of the veggies.

Wash, pat dry and carefully place butter cubes under the chicken skin. Season the chicken well with the dry rub.

Instant Pot Beer Can Chicken Recipe

How to make a whole chicken in an Instant Pot. This Instant Pot Beer Can Chicken will be falling off the bone.

Ingredients

  • 8 qt Instant Pot
  • 5-6 pound whole chicken
  • 1 16 oz can of Yuengling beer
  • 1 onion, chopped into large chunks
  • 2- 3 stalks of celery(chopped in large Chunks)
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbs butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp celery salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

Remove any packing from inside of chicken. Rinse chicken, pat dry, and place butter under the skin.

Mix dry seasonings in a small bowl and rub dry seasonings all over the chicken.

Place cut veggies in the Instant pot with 1 cup water.

Open beer and place in the middle of the veggies.

Carefully place your chicken so the chicken is standing on the beer.

No trivet needed. Place your Pot on manual high pressure for 30 minutes.

Do a natural release for 20 minutes.

Optional to rub with olive oil and place under broiler for 3-5 minutes watching carefully not to burn.
