How to Tame a Cat

To tame a cat you’ll need either raw cod or raw salmon. Both of these fish are commonly found in just about every ocean biome. You can easily get these fishes by hunting them in the water and they usually die in just a few hits.

Now that you have the food you need, you’re going to need to sneak up on a cat. Cats are easily frightened so when approaching them it’s best to slowly creep up on them by crouching or standing still near them with the food. Once you tame the cat, you’ll notice hearts will appear above their heads, and a red collar will spawn on their neck, just like the wolves.

But similarly to the wolves, you can also change the color of the collar by right-clicking or by pressing the left trigger while holding dye.

How to Breed a Cat

Just like a wolf, you’ll need to tame the cat before you can breed it. Once you’ve done that, you won’t need to build any animal farm to keep the cats from running away.

To breed a cat, you’ll need to feed it either raw cod or raw salmon. Once you’ve fed the cats either one of those fishes, they’ll enter love mode. A baby kitten should spawn within a few seconds after that.

Now that you've learned how to breed cats, why not check out our Taming Guide that details everything you need to know about Taming Animals in Minecraft.
