A teenager has died after reportedly getting into difficulty in the River Tyne.
Officers received a report at around 3.30pm on Saturday that two boys had got into difficulty in the water near Ovingham bridge in Ovingham.
Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service and Northumberland Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene.
A number police vehicles remain in the area on Sunday morning and a section of a footpath, which leads down to the river, is taped off.
Police have now confirmed a 14-year-old's body was recovered from the water, while a 13-year-old boy was rescued and taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Parents of teen who drowned in River Tyne describe death of boy on same stretch as 'upsetting'
The parents of a teenager who drowned in the River Tyne have described the loss of another child on the same stretch of river as "upsetting".
Stella and Carl Hattersley lost their son Robert after he got into difficulty while swimming with friends in the river in Ovingham in Northumberland. The 13-year-old was swept under by the current and those with him were unable to save him.
His family waited for around six hours while the emergency services searched the water for him on July 17, 2022. Police later gave them the heartbreaking news that he had been found and had passed away.
Less than two years on, officers have now confirmed the death of another teenage boy on the same strength of the River Tyne.

A 14-year-old boy has died and a 13-year-old boy is in a critical condition after getting into difficulty in the River Tyne.
Police received a report of concern for the welfare of two teenage boys who were in the river near the bridge at Ovingham, Northumberland, shortly after 3.30pm on Saturday. Emergency services were immediately deployed to the area.
Northumbria Police attended the scene along with the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS), the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and (NFRS).

'Absolutely tragic incident'
Northumbria Police said the parents of both boys are being supported by specially-trained officers at this extremely difficult time.
Chief Superintendent Helena Barron, of Northumbria Police, said:
"This is an absolutely tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the families of both boys at this difficult time as we continue to support them.
"A number of agencies were involved in the incident and their support was hugely appreciated.
"It is with great sadness that we could not provide a more positive update."

The other boy, aged 13, was rescued from the water.
He was taken to hospital where he currently remains in a critical condition.

A 14-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in the River Tyne.
A number of organisations conducted a thorough search of the area in a bid to locate the boy.
Sadly his body was later found in the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two ambulance crews attended the scene
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent a full Hazardous Area Response Team, two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and an officer to the scene.
A spokesperson for the NEAS said:
"We were called to reports of concerns of two people in the water in Ovingham at 3.30pm on Saturday, 18 May.
"We dispatched our full Hazardous Area Response Team as well as two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and an officer.
"We also requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service."

Patient treated and taken to hospital
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) said their doctor-led team worked with the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to treat a patient before accompanying them to hospital.
A spokesperson for the GNAAS said:
"We were activated to an incident in Northumberland at 15.40pm. Our Doctor-led team drove to the incident via Rapid Response Vehicle and arrived on scene at 16.24. They worked with the North East Ambulance Service to treat a patient before accompanying them to hospital."
